Service Engine Soon

Let me tell you what this new ny state inspection stuff is for the birds. I've been trying for two weeks to get my car inspected and the service engine soon light keeps coming on. I've had it hooked up three times to diagnostic, first time the guy said it was the gas tank no closed tight enough and rests the light, second he says i need a new gas cap, ok bought one light still comes on, third time can't find nothing reset light light comes back on....i don't get it and neither does my mechanic, can anyone help that's my sole vehicle to get back and forth to work....I;ve had nothing but problems from day one with this car, makes me wonder if it's not a lemon

Re: Service Engine Soon

I had a similar problem with a 98 Pontiac Montana that I had. At first the SES Service Engine Soon light would come on, I'd tighten the gas cap and the light soon went out, after a few times that didn't work. I took it into the dealer (it was still under war.) they put it up in the air and inspected the entire fuel system and found a small crack in the filler tube where it meets the tank. They replaced the tank/filler and it was fixed.

The reason it comes on is because the system is pressurized, the agitation of the gas when you drive builds up the pressure in the tank to help push the fuel to the engine.

I hope this give you something look for.

Good luck, Welcome to the Forum
