Interlagos:Debriefing

Some points to ponder -

1/How long before Montoya realises that in order to win,you must first survive the start?

2/Why is Barrichello having so many mechanical problems with the previously bullet-proof 2001 car?

3/how long before Toyota get their first podium finish?

4/what are Mclaren doing wrong this year? And what are Williams doing right?

5/will Heidfeld be penalised for hitting the medic's van?

6/are Minardi on the up in terms of reliability or have they just been lucky so far?

1) your guess is as good as mine. i think he's still obsessed with beating MS, which is not a good thing to take on to a circuit as it impairs your judgement. he would be much better off if he raced his own race and forgot about MS (to a certain degree, of course)

2) because anything can happen to such complicated machines. besides, its not exactly the same as last year's, there have been some new part additions and the like.. anyway, wasnt it about time something went wrong with the F2001?

3) again, impossible to say. Olivier Panis won Monaco in a sh*tty car in '96 because so many failed to finish. something like that can easily happen again... if not, next year or the year after that at least would be a realistic time to achieve that goal.

4) McLaren's problem: Engine. McLaren's strength: aerodynamics, chassis.
Williams' strength: Engine. Williams' problem: chassis
of course these "problems" are with respect to current leaders Ferrari

5) No, he shouldnt have been and as far as i know, he wasnt. unless they changed their mind. Yellow flags werent waved, and MS's Ferrari was in the way. Heifeld was not at fault

6) They seem to be on the up, though 4 races is by no means enough time to pass this judgement

cheers,
jay

The longer the better Would be nice if he could take out his teammate and both McLarens in the process

I somewhat don't like what he said about the accident:

Quote:
"After the start I made a mistake in the first corner, therefore Michael could get in front of me. Afterwards, I tried to overtake him again, but he cut across and ripped off my front wing. Again, I am very disappointed."
Cut across??? From what I've seen, he was behind and it was he who slammed into the rear wheel of the Fferrari! It's even more his b;ame than at the previous race.

Beats me. Bad luck mostly, BUT there's some rumour that he made some litttle mistakes as far as taking care of the engine is concerned in Malaysia...

They won't be able to do it based on performance, so the answer is: as soon as they get even more lucky than in Australia.

I, personally, think that Newey doesn't care. Also McLaren ran out of the potential of the '98 car (the one after the MAJOR rule change when they managed to make the best car - and by far so!). Willimas have a history of making very good chassis, and now they also have the most powerful engine. That spells "success".

Uh, uh, and another mistake by McLaren is employing Coulthard

On a side note, I'm beginning to think that Ferrari cars are not the best... but the Schumacher factor is what keeps it going.

Maybe the next time he needs medical attention

I can't see why they shouldn't get better reliability - at last they are NOT using 4-year-old Ford engines. Look at 2002 Ford engines

One more thing I want to add is that I'm pleasantly surprised by Renault. Although not quite as fast as McLaren, fast enough to keep them behind until pitstops. I have a warm place in my heart for that team (after '94 -'95), and I also happnen to like Button, so I'm pleased with their progress.

JPM WAS an idiot for what he said about his 2nd incident with MS... the guy should really stop to think before he says something... then again, he has said it over and over again so he must really believe it... brain check it is!

i dont see how you could doubt the new Ferrari. it has yet to be beaten by any car. schumi won with it in brazil, and ferrari scored 1-2 in san marino! what weakness do you spot that no one else does?
besides, its Williams who need to sort out their chassis to take the fight to Ferrari. dont get me wrong, its a good chassis, but not as good as the ferrari.

i think youre right, Newey is bored, or doesnt care. but i disagree over Coulthard, he's an excellent driver... i dont see where the criticism comes from... maybe because he's the only genuine nice guy on the grid and doesnt talk shit about others?

cheers,
jay

Remember, the original post was made right after Interlagos Since then even Rubens (a good driver but hardly able to challenge in an inferior car) managed a very strong second place.

I'm the first to admit that I'm quite biased in regards to DC. Believe it or not, but I liked him before '98. And all this talk every off-season that he's going to win the championship the next year... And remember calling Burti an idiot after Monaco?

ok, thats a fair statement.. he does say he's going to challenge and what have you. but he was doing pretty damn good last year before the car let him down (badly)... The Macca doesnt look very good at all this year so you can hardly blame him for not performing.. the gearbox causing him to spin off 3 times in the opening race of the season!?!?! just what are mclaren up to, eh?

Well, one of the slow B-guys I feel stupid. But if you showed me pictures of the two of them, I couldn't tell which is which.

No, wait, Burti is a Ferrari tester, so yeah, I know his face. But really, not Bernoldi's.

Come to think about it, I wonder why Ferrari gave Burti the job

two testers seems the way to go now... ferrari can afford it, he's a decent driver. its just another way of extracting a small advantage over rival teams... thats why ferrari are on top (not because of Burti , because they maximise every little detail)

cheers,
jay

The cars seem to spend more time in the wall than on the tarmac. But it does have some funny parts Also the phrase about a monkey and a football

It was right after the We're busy eating ice-cream episode (which was funny too: "- I gotta pit. - No, we're busy. We're eating ice-cream....") The team boss was talking to the two guys and said something like: I was working with the sponsors, holding them, kissing them on the ear ... wanted us to put up a great show ... and there we are looking like a monkey f*cking a football! (the quote is quite approximate).
