Re: CV joint replacement on 96 1.0 Metro
loosen lugs nut on wheel and use a large socket and breaker bar and break the axle nut loose. jack the side of the car your gonna work on up a ways. take the bolt out that holds the ball joint/lower control arm to the hub and pry down on the control arm till it pops out of the hub. use a large srewdriver and pry between tranny and axle knuckle to pop it out of the tranny being carefull not to damage the seal. if you have side jacked up enough very little or no fluid will come out of tranny. slide axle out of hub. new axle should cost about $65-85. when you put new one in you may have to hit end of axle a little to get it to pop back all the way into the tranny. don't mess up the threads on the end. when you put nut back on get it as tight as you can, think torque is like 105 pounds but i usually just use a breaker bar with a pipe extenson and get it tightned up good.when you have it tight take a punch or chisel and stake axle nut into notch in axle to keep it from lossening up. its about a hour job if everything goes right
