The cheapest mods would be an intake and an exaust. A turbo would also be nice but costly.

About how much you could get for your car...
This girl at my work recently bought a super clean 90 something GS-T Eclipse for 10,000... I doubt you could get 10k for a GS, but who knows. Her eclipse has about the same mileage (I think), and its an automatic (booo :P)
Anyways, thats my 2 cents -Grendel |

get rid of the import
sell the thing. Your not going to get any real performance from a GS without dumping a ton of money into it. Get something with real hp and torque, like a newer mustang GT, or any of the cobras 93 and newer.

What they could do is sell their eclipse, buy an older datsun/nissan Z, one of the turbo models... the straight sixes in those have some decent torque, and are pretty fun to drive. I got my 83 280zx turbo for $950, with 150k miles (these things last forever... 150k miles isnt anything) Just buy a cheap Z, and have a ton of money left over for mods... Z cars look pretty nice with a mild bodykit and tasteful rims and a nice paintjob. I know Zs cant keep up with the higher end mustangs, but they are cheap, fun, and fairly quick... good for a college guy like me... Again, just my 2 cents... ![]() -Grendel |

It all depends. What is the GS rated at stock hp and torque wise?

It's just the same as all the other AWD Turbo triad cars from the 90's. Mitsubishi had the eclipse, Eagle(chrysler) had the Talon, and Plymouth had the Laser(my personaly fav cus it had the same power as all the rest but weighed a couple of hundred pounds less cause it had no unneeded options.)
They all came in a few different models jsut like any car, but the main difference was there were turbo, AWD models(only one per car). I believe the Eclipses was the GS-T, the Talon's was the TSI, and i can't rememeber what the Lasers was. These were all powered by the same engine, the 4g63, and produced about 200 HP and an equal ammount of torque. However, the non-turbo models, such as the Talon ESI or the Eclipse GS, were powered by the neon engine(i can't remember what it's called) and produced about 140HP and were FWD. Thats what I've never liked about these cars. Sure, like most other cars that had FWD and AWD variations, you can very easily convert the FWD to AWD using the parts form say a scraped AWD version, However, unlike other cars like say an early 90's Protege GT, or a Celica GT, they didn't have the same engines as the faster models. So, you can't just buy a non-turbo, FWD model of talon or eclipse or laser and just add a turbo and AWD components and have the fast version, because you have to do an engine swap first.

knobby17, LOL, I am glad you said it.
To tell you the truth it will cost you more to turbocharge your GS than it would to buy a GS-T, but there is an advantage to spending the money to turbocharge your car; you would have a brand new and better turbo, a better intercooler, and a better reinforcement than you would with a GS-T or GSX. Personally if you have the money I would say put a nice big Garrett turbo, intercooler, new exhaust, reinforce the engine, and slap a boot controller with a air to fuel mixture controller so you can kick ass when you want and you could run a good 25+ PSI of boost. That should make for a damn fast car. Plus yours doesn't have the added weight of the AWD and unless you tell you insurance company your rates will stay the same. In the long run it might be better to mod the car YOU have already. Just my .02. |

Your right domestics are not the longest lasting thing out there. But, i would rather have a performance car then a econobox that can last 200,000 miles. You like your GS? fine thats your business. You asked for performance advice, and i gave it. Not my problem you guys cant deal with it.
