Ok, some ideas....i want some feedback!
Ok, Noah (ng) designed me a box, ported, 32hz, for my 2 12" RE's
Gross box volume: 5.15 cubes NET box volume: 4 cubes Tuning: 32hz Port Area: 55.5 in^2 ...AND I LOVE IT....just the box needs to be so damn big....and I kinda like my space...So, i was thinking about this today, and please tell me if this is stupid or dumb or alright, whatever, i don't care, i just want some feedback/ideas I would make 2 sealed boxes (3/4" MDF or glassed, im not real sure yet, prob glassed since ive never done that...), and construck them so that people can still sit in the back of my extended cab. Then make a false floor in the back out of 1/2 baltic birch plywood, braced of course. Then everything is hidden under the floor, and carpet it all a dark gray or something (my interior is black). This way, people can still sit in the extend cab part; I have the jump seats that fold out of the wall. I can still store all my crap in there, and all you see are some bulges for the boxes of the subs. Any questions ask, Later -Ryan *Edit* This question is mainly for NG and Bumpin, how much different would the sealed sound compared to my ported box, and what volume would be ideal for a sealed box for 1 sub....Thanks |

Re: Ok, some ideas....i want some feedback!
If you absolutely NEED the space then you can seal, but the RE's aren't very loud to begin with so personally I would give up space (like my backseats) to be louder. But that's your choice. As far as sealed goes RE reccomends pretty small boxes, but all of their sealed suggestions are too small. What kind of space do you have to work with if you went sealed?

There would be a noticeable decrease in output. As long as you don't mind this, it'll be ok. What amplifier are you using on them btw? If you want, I could design you another ported enclosure, make it smaller...3cubes NET @32hz with a little less port area. This will reduce the size. I have an extended cab truck with my 18XXX back their taking up a lil over 10 cubes Gross I know you don't have that many friends...so give it up ![]() Lol, that's the sacrifice I made...turning my truck into a 3-seater. I have plenty of friends with cars that can haul people around...and my g/f has a Jeep Grand Cherokee so it works out well. Anyways, hit me up and I'll take care of you. peace NG |

My amp is a Profile HA 1000, 240x2 at 2ohms (what im running it at) I am thinking about some box ideas right now NG, i will get back to you in a few days, prob with some sketches or something, it aint gonna be ordinary, and i think it might have a little glass in it....Thanks for your input guys -Ryan |

Let me see if I still have pictures of my first truck. I built a bench seat for 2 12's that matched the front seats. People could actually sit on it too.

That would be cool ponch, although if it don't have seatbelts, i aint sittin on it for any period of time. To make a long story short. Friend driving, me=seatbelt, him=no seatbelt. Ford Ranger=Rolled over. Me=fine, Him=ejected through my window, broke his shoulder and back, now in wheelchair with no feeling/movement below knees. Me=always wear seatbelt now! theres my reasoning....

Re: Ok, some ideas....i want some feedback!
Yep! I hear you on that one. I had factory lap belts back there. You know, people usually just don't think of the worst when doing things like this. I am happy to see you are.
You know the hillbilly way of throwing some speakers in a small box and laying them in the back window? Well, back in my early days (about 14 years ago) I worked at a big chain store. They warned us not to do anything like that. They said if anything was to be installed inside the cabin area, it had to be mounted to something. Reason was that some young kid had the store install speakers in a box in the back window. Well, while cruising with his girl one night he rear ended someone. The speakers took off at the exact speed he once was traveling and one smacked his girlfriend in the back of the head. It smashed her skull and killed her on the spot. All of this in a simple fender bender. Man, you know I was in the shop and before I left I kept thinking that I was forgetting something. I just figured out what it was. It was the pics. I'll try to sneak in over the weekend and snatch them up.

Re: Ok, some ideas....i want some feedback!
Ok, i took eveything out of my pickup and did some measurements. There is no way in hell that i can get a 3 cuft box in there and still use the back for a passanger cabin. So, I am going to scratch the idea of having you design a ported box NG, the biggest I can get is like a 1.8 ft^3 NET and still be able to use it as a passenger seat.
I think I am going to make some sealed boxes....I am still gonna keep the box that NG made me plans I am gonna make some seald boxes for basically three reasons, 1. The Hell of It 2. I am curious to the difference in sound 3. I want to fiberglass something Thanks alot -Ryan *edit* How much space does a sealed RE need? |

Re: Ok, some ideas....i want some feedback!
The seats fold out from the wall, right? What if you removed just one of seats and glassed the subs into the cavity it was sitting in? Then you'd still have room for 1 passenger back there, and space for other cargo.

Re: Ok, some ideas....i want some feedback!
Ive thought about that, but personally, i am not sure if i want to put that much work into putting a sub in there, cause it couldn't be flush with the rest of the trim cause it is a little ass seat and the sub wouldn't sit in there all the way....and I think it would take more work than its worth.
I got some ideas for some seald boxes to make that are part fiberglass that im gonna try....i will post pics when i get to them, i wont be able to think about starting them untill the 14th.... But im gonna work on those and I am gonna try my hand a making a fiberglass tonneau cover for my S10, so i will have my fabrication projects cut out for me for a while... Thanks for all your help -Ryan |
