engine bogging, pulling code 43

hey i got a 95 camaro and the i overheated my waterpump went out on the freeway and low and behold i warped the block and head, so i got a used engine from a friend out of a 96 impala almost the exact same engine except for the distributor, so after the engine was installed i started pulling a code 43 description and im not 100% sure this will fix it all, would this cause my engine to bog out all the time, could this potentaly destroy the engine? any help please!

Im not sure if this would be a concern, But 96+ vehicles/engines are OBD2.. Your ECM is OBD1.. The codes might not be 100% accurate and you might have conflicts between the engine and ECM

ok first i love your cars, i own a mkii supra, and the camaro im talking about isnt actally mine its my cousins. ok so that out of the way i have this in mind, his connector for the ecm is obd-ii but it pulls obd-i codes... am i crazy or is this the year that they started to change things over, and with that in mind since he has obd-i i believe would we be able to swap the emc out of a 96 or did they change to much in the internals? and if i can where would be a good place to get one? and last but not least what can we do if we cant swap the ecm out of a 96 do we have to bit the bullet and get rid of it, because here in california aka "smog nazi state" its hard enough to pass smog without the light of death on in the dash, anyway thanks for the information, i got to talk to him again and make sure i got my years right.

I dont know enough about the obdII system to help you out much.. I know that the OBDII vehicles dont have an ECM anymore, so you wouldnt be able to simply swap them.. in 96' they seperated the ECM into two (sometimes three) different computers
the PCM (powertrain control module) sometimes called a VCM, and the BCM (body control module)

BUt I would look at that as a last resort, your problem could just be a loose wire from the ESC to the ECM, bad knock sensor or wiring or a bad ground.. check over all your wiring again and see if you can borrow an ESC from somewhere to test it out..

I dont think you havto worry about engine damage, (although I dont recommend driving the car) Because the ECM isnt seeing a signal from the ESC, it will retard the timing which is why your car is running poorly.. But it will also prevent Detonation (kills engines)

ok so im thinking it has obd-ii because he has 3.. maybe 2 gotta doubble check... computers, one in the engine compartment, one behind the passenger side kick panel and i think one was either above the glove box or behind the driver side kick panel, i think when he comes over tomorrow ill go over all the wiring and all the sensors.
