Re: egr valve

I had the same problem with my '77, it was a loose vacuum hose to the carb, so check your vacuume hoses

Re: egr valve

Try blocking off ur EGR w/ a plate to see if it really is the problem... u'll get a lil more spunk too. It won't ruin anything

Re: egr valve

what year is your car? is it missing??? or the motor is running good, you just cant pull any speed out it? from what you have said - it sounds like either a torque converter or flywheel to me.... maybe the vacum lines, definatly check them first (because its the easiest and cheapist), but you would be able to hear the hiss from the line most likly if that is what is wrong...let us know what is happening man.

Thanks for the tips..ive zeroed the computer and gotten rid of the air filter..Now i have more power but still it just when engine is cold(it seems)..and i can hear something shutting down automatically when im reving ..down with the gas..engine starts to produce power..then uiii something shuts down and the car likes to shift down..seems like the engine is not getting enough gas..wondering if its the fuel regulator..cause the gas pump cant be faulty..can it??? i mean either it works or not ..right??..But i vill check the vacuum hoses today and see how they work..and seal of the egr valve to..get back later today..or tomorrow..
Thanks guys Matt

Re: egr valve

EGR shouldn't cause a powerloss. The same goes for removing it, shouldn't gain anything either. Just an emissions control.

Well, if she is running outta gas, I would bet fuel pump. Hear a whining from the back near the tank??

Re: egr valve

hey man what year is your car? If it is newer like 96 and up don't remove the egr valve it is working. all it does is allow exhaust gases back into the engine to help warm it up and to burn cleaner, but because of the burn cleaner part the computer take reading from it and adjusts the air/fuel mix accordingly. You will actually loose power on newer cars if you if you remove it. I would go more towards a fuel problem. If it is 95 and back to 82 there is a shorter list of problems possible but i need to know the year in order to help.

Re: egr valve

ok i just went and looked at your profile and saw it was a 96 firebird. if your cats are good and your egr valve is working properly which it should be. you will not have any vacuum lines to check that could cause this problem egr valves on those cars have solenoid controls. check out your idle air control valve. if it is stuck open then there is air getting to the motor that the computer doesn't know about and it can have such effect. If it has the 3.8L you also have an exhaust air pump. this takes air out of the exhaust and blows it back into the motor and if it is bad and stuck wide open your not getting enough air to the motor you are just pumping it full of exhaust. if it is running and your are just not getting power out of the engine it sounds like there is something going on the the computer does not know about so it is not working properly your best bet is to find a dealer and take it there so they can monitor the entire computer system with a stand-alone computer. good luck

This I disagree with. The 01-02 F-Body's didn't even come with it. The LS6 intake from GM didn't have the spot for the valve to enter the intake. I purchased the LS6 intake, installed it, and removed the EGR/AIR systems while doing so. Granted, the codes need removed from the computer, but otherwise, no problems. Most of the time, that intake with the EGR/AIR removal gives around 10-12 RWHP. Even more with heads and cam cars.

Re: Re: Re: egr valve

HMM..actually i have heard a whiining from the back near the tank..and
as i may be..today when i was going 55-60mph..reving 1500-2500
i could feel the car getting power..then cutting it..like someones holding you back..then acceleration.then stopping..i could feel it clear..
i held it steady at 2000 rpm..and this phenomenem kept happening..it was small moves..but i could feel them..and suddenly when i gently pushed the gas slightly..i got a bit acceleration from the car..but at 60-70 mph..it stopped..and with a kickdown..the engine just roared..and slowed down..like it shut itself down..no power on the gears whatsoever..and it took a good time to get the roll upp to 70 mph again..
ive never had this happen to me before with any car..now its container time back home..and a new model ..

Re: Re: egr valve

My mileage is about 65000 ..and would you belive it ..checked the fuel filter..its a 3.4 l version..they must have put the wrong one there..but could this slow it down that much.mm..i had the problem before the service..unless the filter was clogged upp..and the problem then occured..and after service the same problem exists cause of a wrong filter..it makes sense..but..it shouldnt shift down that much..

Re: egr valve

a MAF sensor, O2 sensor, Fuel Pump, can all cause this problem... the O2 sensor you can pull out and check... with the milage on it, i wouldnt say MAF, but its possible, but the whinning that oyu hear from the back leads me to say that its the pump... you can check that to...

I picked up 13 horse at the wheels with I removed my EGR valve. Why you would want to feed your engine it's own shit is beyond me....

The only problem with removing it is if you have to pass emissions. Also it will set a code.
