Unhappy crankwalk

anybody here with a 2g 4g63 experience crankwalk? I have a 95 gsx built in dec 1994 and am quite concerned. Most cases I read about occur after 50k and I have 45k. The car is immaculate and this has me considering a sale sign.

crankwall

crankshaft thrust bearing failure. 2g eclipse owners worst nightmare. do a google search crankwalk. It happens to those who fear it most.

Re: crankwalk

Crankwalk is very overrated. I actually believe it's just a theory conspiracy by the Honda guys to keep people from buying these bad ass cars Seriously though, it is not a very common thing even with 2g's. I used to have a site bookmarked that had a bunch of shit about thrust bearing failure (I want to say it was either roadraceengineering.com or machv.com).

It is definitely not a valid excuse to sell your car. My 95 GSX has over 130k miles on it and not one symptom of crankwalk yet (knock on wood).

Thumbs up phew

I visit those sites frequently. That makes me feel better. Mine was made in dec 1994, I'm hoping to see some polls on manufacture dates so there is some consensus on wtf is going on. I have seen pics and so forth so I do know it exists. There is a post on the performance forum about this. also does anybody know of a good timing belt kit for the 2g's? the best deal I found was at prostreet, t-belt, b-shaft belt, w-pump and tensioner for around $200. Maybe event he idler.

Re: crankwalk

And how many poeple in your city own DSMs that continue to run fine? The country? DO the math, the percentage is ridiculously low. I had 3 motors in a row walk, and I still say its rare. Go figure.

On www.racingknowledge.org I posted a shitload about CW in a sticky thread in the DSM section. There are a lot of internet theories out there, but how many poeple have had 3 motors go... 99% of people that post about CW have never experienced it. And 50% of the poeple that think they had CW had lifter tick. I'm not impressed.

Re: crankwalk

So yes, crank walk is an issue, but its a hit or miss situation. If you are willing to sell your DSM over the fear of it then maybe you should sell it. You have to have A VERY patient love for DSM's because all of the stupid little problems, and some larger.. CW.. but through all the problems of our cars lies one of the finest machines ever built.
Hate it or love it.

its your choice, roll the dice and pray to the crank walk gods.

Not to mention a failing master or slave cylinder. For some reason that seems to be the most mistaken issue that people think is crankwalk.

Re: crankwalk

Yes, thats a very common one to, since on a 2g, the return spring geometry is such that it will hold the pedal to the floor if the clutch doesnt push it back up.

Re: crankwalk

READ:

http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/crankwalktheory.htm

this is the best theory that i have heard yet and i believe it.

i havent heard of any DSM owners say they have disproved it yet
