Transmission Rebuild

Alright, im sick of paying people to put new syncros in my tranny. I have lots of experience with cars and my neighbor used to own a tranny shop...so i wanna borrow his tools and start doing my own tranny rebuilds. I know your probably gonna just say pay somoene to do it but i wanna try. Does anyone have any background in doing this or know of any guides/refrences that I can look off of? Thanks!

P.S. The syncros arent going because i cant shift...im runnin high 11s low 12s, and my friend is runnin 10.58...between the two of us we own 7 dsms....so lots of tranny work! thanks

Re: Transmission Rebuild

there are lots of people running times faster then that on stock transmissions without any trouble.

so....... learn to shift if you want a trans that wont break have either team rip engineering or shep do a race rebuild for you.

Re: Transmission Rebuild

The problem i am havign is my syncro for seccond keeps dieing....im not the only one with this problem as i do all or the repairs to my friends cars. I just want to know if anyone has any links or advice on rebuilding them. Im not looking to pay any more money as i now have the tools to rebuild the transmissions and i am not looking to purchase a new transmission. If anyone has any links or anything that would be great!.....BTW...My 92 TSI AWD was purchased new by my uncle and has been used for the sole purpose of drag racing since new....so its bound to have some worne tranny gears!

Re: Transmission Rebuild

If the synchros keep dyning, something else is wrong. But back on topic, there used to be a vfaq from Dre for rebuilding turbo trannys. He used to break them very often and decided to learn how to do it. It should still be there.
