horrible knock

when my car starts to hit boost around 2500 rpm, I feel this sick ass knock. It's not just a little tap, as a boost leak would cause, it's a hard jolt. It does this until about 4500 rpms. It does this a lot more when my engine is cold, but its always there. I've also noticed that my car is ALOT slower than it was when I first bought it. It definitley shouldnt be doing this since I just got my car back last week from getting my head rebuilt. What could be causing this?

Re: horrible knock

Stuttering and jerking isn't the same as knock. Knock will only reduce timing, and you will barely feel it if at all. You have an ignition problem most likely.

Check all of that. Start with your spark plugs and make sure they are gapped correctly. Next check your plug wires and see if they are in good condition. Also check for arcing between the wires.

If all of that checks out and you're still having problems, check back and let us know.

my plug wires are shitty so it might be those, but I dont have the 40 or so bucks to get new OEM ones
It could be my plugs since the ones that are in there are platinum and I read that platinum plugs are bad for turbo cars. ALso, when I bought them ,I asked the guy at autozone how I should gap them, and he said they didnt have to be gapped at all, so I just put them in as is.

Re: horrible knock

the guy at autozone is an idiot and shouldn't be working there. always gap plugs before you put them in. the factory might have screwed up and who knows what kind of abuse those took on the ride from the factory to the store shelf. if you don't have money to buy new ones, sandblast the old ones or even do a quick clean job should make them last a little longer.

ill be able to scrape together the 12 bucks or so to get new plugs. Being broke SUCKS! ANother thing, I've noticed lately that I can smell unburnt gas inside my car, so I'm thinking bad fuel injector?
Sweet how I 've had my DSM since December and already spent almost 4 grand fixing the fucker and it still is messd up.

Re: horrible knock

the gas is probably from the misfire from the bad plugs/wires. get some ngk plugs gap them to .28 and slap em in there.

that would be sweet if it was just the plugs causing the problem. I'll buy some Ngk's after school today and post if my problems are fixed
