2003 Sx2.0

Ive got a 2003 SX2.0 and i think that there is something wrong with the brakes because every time i touch the brake pedal the car feels as though it is hitting a series of rather large speedbumps. Ive taken the car in 2 or 3 times and the mechanic insists that the brakes are fine. Is the mechanic wrong or could it be something else?

Thanks
