96 grand am gt maintanence manual

I am looking for a maintenace book for a 96 grand am gt with the 2.4L engine. Every wear that I have looked they say that they don't make one. Could anyone tell me the name of one and wear to get it.
Thanks

Doesn't Chilton or Haynes make one for that year? If you can't find one at Autozone or AdvanceAuto, or a similar place, I would check online. You should be able to find one somewhere online for about 20$.

Re: 96 grand am gt maintanence manual

I have a Haynes Manual right here on my desk for the Grand Am including the 2.4L. It is listed as:

General Motors
Buick Skylark 1986 thru 1998
Buick Sometset 1985 thru 1987
Oldsmobile Achieva 1992 thru 1998
Oldsmobile Calais 1985 thru 1991
Pontiac Grand Am 1985 thru 1998

Like I say, it does have the engine and mechanical systems fro the 2.4L, There is not a sepreate book on just the Grand Am 2.4L

I picked my copy up at an Auto parts store.

I hope this helps.

Re: 96 grand am gt maintanence manual

Yeah, i am looking at my Chilton's 1985-1998 repair manual, which essentially lists the models that Hoag's Haynes lists. Chilton's manual # is 28660.

Chilton's is published by haynes, Haynes snailmail is 861 Lawrence Drive, Newbury Park, CA 91320.

Now, if you mean a "service" manual that is direct from the manufacturer [GM], ya have to go to GM or a GM dealer to order those, WARNING $$$$$$, major.

Re: 96 grand am gt maintanence manual

Remember that most HAYNE'S or CHILTON'S group like body-styles together, and separate them out within the manual, e.g. the Buick Skylark has it's own little area, the GA has it's own little area within any topic [such as the engine or interior].

Re: 96 grand am gt maintanence manual

Example, my Chilton's, page 3-70, for the 2.3 aqnd 2.4L engines, procedure to remove your rear main crankshaft seal, including sketch of the procedure.

page 4-16 shows how to pull a KS sensor for the 2.4L, etc etc.

Remember, that a 2.4 or other size engine is dropped into body-styles of different makes, e.g. the same 2.4 is dropped into a Buick, GA, Olds for a year range.

You were given wrong advice about no info. for the 2.4L re the Chilton's or Haynes.

Re: 96 grand am gt maintanence manual

Right now the pumps just seaping around the gasket not enough to worry about just yet. I wanted the instructions so I can decide wheather I want to attempt this myself or start saving the penny's. If I do it myself it will be in the driveway with a pair of jack stands, a creapper and a whole lot of swearing. I have a bad foot and it kinda bothers me if I end up doing a lot of up and down from the engine to under the car.
Thanks for asking, I'll let you know what I decide. I would really like to get into it and do something a little tougher than oil changes and brake jobs.

As for the star, I'm up for the challange:

***May The Best Man Win***

Be good,
Dan
