Yet another thread from me

I know I've been posting a lot lately, but as of last night there's been a new development and I need some suggestions. I did some renegotiating of my loan, and upon my go-ahead I will have $4,000 in my hands to fix the car. As of right now, as it sits, I doubt I could get more than $6,500 Canadian for the car. After the 4 grand, I'm pretty sure I could make my money back. So...what I want to do with the 4 grand - miscellaneous things like getting the active aero working again, getting a new sunroof crank to replace the broken one, new door panel and dashboard to fix the rips. The main things will be a new clutch, a 2nd gear syncro installed, and a new aluminum or carbon fiber driveshaft. All 3 U-joints are gone in it and Mitsu wants $750 plus install for them, so I'm going the whole driveshaft. I will also likely do K&N intake and install a guage and the MBC. If I don't get what I want out of the car in the spring, I will keep it. Any thoughts are welcome...I want to spend as LITTLE AS POSSIBLE on each of the things I buy, so can we throw out some ideas on where to buy these things and possibly some brands? Thanks a lot!!

Re: Yet another thread from me

Well if you're looking to sell the best option is to really spend as little as possible, which means: no MBC, gauge, intake, and don't go extra on the driveshaft. The clutch and synchro would help your sale, the others might actually hurt it since modifications usually lower the value to the average consumer (unless the mods are extreme and professional). I would suggest buying the 97+ wing instead of repairing the active aero, it would look better IMO, and it would definitely be cheaper meaning more profit for you. You should look up the cost of each part you NEED, call around for installation labor if you can't do it yourself and total it all up. Then add in what you WANT and make your decision.

Oh and if you're keeping the car go nutz.

You read my mind about the wing. Iwas just thinking that this morning, but will there be holes in my hatch or anything? I'm assuming ebay would be the place to find one.

About the sunroof crank, mine stopped working too but I took it apart and the screw that holds the top and bottom togeather was just loose.

Yeah...the crank still actually works; it's just everything around it (the plastic covering and stuff) is gone. It was squeaking one night and I though punching the crap out of it would miraculosuly fix it...man I need anger management therapy.

YOu get what you pay for.

Try contacting 3SX of South Bend Clutch they both have good clutches for reasonable prices.

I kinda thought about that, but it's an Exedy company. I don't really want to spend $500 on a clutch if I don't need to is the thing. Especially if I'm going to sell it. BTW, what are some good brands of clutches? And where can I buy a 2nd gear synchro?

Re: Yet another thread from me

Synchros you can get from kormex...talk to Young, he did it awhile back.

As far as the mods...I'm with Twisted...you should decide whether you want to mod it for personal use, or fix it for sale purposes...because it seems to me like you havn't quite decided. If it were me, I'd replace the driveshaft and clutch with OEM.

Alan mentioned some good ideas regarding clutches, also if you check out 3si, there are dozens of great threads regarding clutch decisions.

Lastly, the active aero...have you taken it apart, cleaned it and put it back together...many times this is a free fix that repairs simple lock-ups. I'm pretty sure I have something in the FAQ about this, but if not, there are instructions on www.vr4stealth.com

Well the thing is about keeping it or not...I am going to list it for sale but I'm not losing more than 4 or 5k, so if I don't get enough, I'll keep it. I would really like to do some upgrading if I can for around the same price. Right now, I owe $13,000 CDN on the car...I doubt I could get more than 7k for it. If I put the 4 large into it, the value would go up drastically with everything being new. We'll have to see how it goes.

Re: Yet another thread from me

Well I never had a problem with Daikin clutches, I like them. But i've never had 320 hp going to the clutch so I guess that's useless.

Here's a story for you. I've at a grocery store tonight and just as I'm leaving my ex (only like 2 months ago we broke up) and her parents pull up. She hasn't talked to me since because she's a headcase. Anyway, she waves, I reciprocate, put my head down, walk and don't look back. As I'm getting into the VR4, he zooms by in his Camry. Nice guy, but he didn't wave or anything. I get in the VR4 and we're sitting side by side at a light, he's going straight, I'm turning left. I didn't look over at him. When the light turns green, I feather out the clutch, start to take off, and...SNAAAAP. The freaking driveshaft snaps in half right in front of him . So could there have been a more embarassing time for this to happen? Now the car is undriveable. I found a CF driveshaft for $800, now I need to find out if it comes with the joints for either end of it. Everyone else seems to enjoy my mister, hopefully you all did.
