Lightbulb Holden superchared

hey, i am wondering what the costs are of either the vortec or powerdyne superchargers are roughly. Needs to be fully installed on a v6 ecotec vt series 1. What would a rough estimate in power increase be. Does the supercharger require and aftermarket management contrl system or can it be ran without one like i have heard. Has anyone had any trouble with these sort of supercharges? Also i hav heard that the cruzing neon as seen in fast and the furious is illegal in aus? is this true?

Thanks for anyhelp.

prob about 8grand fully installed
It might be cheaper just to buy a supercharged(from the factory) vt and just work that engine a little it wil save you a lot.

the other option is to buy a kit which uses a old jap supercharger these are availaible for around two grand.

warming the super...

The factory supercharged engine has no intercooler so you safely assume that adding one should improve on the efficiency of the setup (as long as you figure plumbing and locating the sucker) as the cooled gas is more efficient to push into the combustion chamber.

Varying the size of the pulleys will affect the gearing of the supercharger so you can theoretical get more boost up to the maximum CFM that the turbine volume and speed will allow (ie make the driveshaft pulley bigger and the supercharger pulley smaller).

I don't know the formulae but once you get close to the maximum cfm of the swept volume of the impeller the greater the proportional increase in speed required for each additional lb of boost. In other words, you have to really push a lot of air at faster and faster speeds thru the intake tract before the boost actually increases unless you can make the impeller bigger. Hence that's why you need a bigger turbo not a faster turbo in most cases to get more boost. Also increasing the impeller speed also introduces issues re bearing and spindle wear/failure.

Compression/knocking/detonation becomes an issue at higher boost levels too.

The last issue I can think of is injector volume - it's all very well putting more boost in but you need the fuel to add to the mixture in sufficient quantities to make the appropriate fuel:air ratio for maximum efficiency.
As you increase boost the more fuel you need, which means injector volume or duration increases and fuel supply...
