coilovers

This may be a silly question, but I'm not familiar with previous years suspension. Will coilovers for a 96 cavy fit on my 02??? Did chevy make any changes on the newer models suspension? Thanks for your help!

Re: coilovers

Different strut mounts,,,, but they will still work and maybe even better. Yes they will work.

Re: coilovers

Thanks. I'm gonna try and put them on tonight. I hope you're right cause I already bought em and returning them isn't an option. Suspension isn't my forte, but they seem extremely small compared to the lowering springs i have on now. I know that coilovers fit on completely differently, but they still seem way too small?

Re: coilovers

Put them on tonight and they seem to fit fine, but when ever I make a semi-severe turn, I hear a noise similiar to a spring poping. Is that just because they're new or is something wrong? The other thing that seems a bit odd is that the right front didn't drop as far as the left front. With the both coilovers as low as possible, the right front was 3/4 in higher than the left! Any thoughts?????

Re: coilovers

they are cheap jdm coilovers and the stock struts. i can't figure out what is making the noise. it's a loud pop every time i turn the wheel. its happening on both sides and i can occasionally feel the vibration from whatever is causing the pop. HELP!

This is going to seem like a low shot to the balls but...

Thats your problem right there. They are probably those sliver and blue E-bay $40 coil overs... Correct? Drop what you are doing. Put your OEM stuff back on. READ THIS before you do anything else. If you don't your only going to have some serious problems down the road man. Trust me, i've done the same stupid thing and i am paying for it. My CV shaft bearings are toast because of the same deal.

Re: coilovers

You're right on target. They're cheap. My understanding is that the expensive coilovers only make a smoother ride. I don't mind the rough ride and I don't need amazing handling, just want to eliminate the tire gap for now. Aren't cheap coilovers ok for that? The link you posted didn't work. I clicked on it but the page won't load. Like I said, I don't know a whole lot about this stuff. So I'm all ears man, I appreciate your help.

Re: coilovers

with the cheap coilovers you will get a very harsh ride. They are very dangerous to drive with and will also lead to suspension failure. Your struts will probably be blown in less than a week and over time your cv axles will need to be replaced. I speak from experience. I had a set of dropzone coilovers. In the first week my factory struts were blown and the strut mounts were trashed. When driving over bumps its very likely that 1 or more of your wheels will actually come off the ground. Do yourself a favor and get some decent quality coilovers or lowering springs. Ground Control and eibach seems to be a popular choice

Re: coilovers

I dunno why it didn't work, but it was a link to the suspension sticky in the J-body non-performance subforum. You going to do more damage than you paid for those coil overs. This is why alot of us reccomend you lower your car before you get rims, so trying to get rid of wheel gap isn't a problem. Going cheap is baddd.

Re: coilovers

So the harsh ride causes the damage to other parts of the car....that makes sense. Thanks guys. Know any websites with good prices on quality coilovers. I'm poor!!!

Re: coilovers

www.carcustoms.net
www.gravantuning.com
www.turbotechracing.com
www.tabascoracing.com

Carcustoms has free shipping and sells Rksport's products alot cheaper than their own site.

any of those items on that page will be amazing. If you just buy coilovers... buy KONI struts to use them on, other wise you'll be in the same positon you are in now. There are other struts out there possble but are more expensive.
