1989 Iroc Engine Swap?

Hey folks....sry kinda a novice at major mechanical stuff...my question is...I have a 1989 Iroc currently running a 305tbi....I also have a 1971 455 rocket sitting in the garage that was rebuilt not long ago....what are the chances of installing that motor into the camaro and removing that warnout 305???

Also, I have a slight problem with leaking T-Tops...any suggestions??

Thanx in advance

Re: 1989 Iroc Engine Swap?

the 455 will not be a bolt in operation. Youll have to custom fabricate engine mounts, cooling systems, fuel lines, as well as any and all electroncs. Plus about a million little details. Also the torque from that 455 will not be friendly to the chassis of that third gen. more likely than not youll have to install subframe connectors or a roll cage to keep the body from twisting off. Id say your best bet is to swap to a 350 or if youre set on a big block sized engine, throw in a 454 small block. But youll still have to do all those chassis stiffening tricks to run that big honker of an engine.

Regarding the leaking T-tops, its kinda one of those character traits of a third gen camaro. They aint never gonna stop leaking. Only thing i can suggest is to put in new weather stripping and hope for the best. The T-tops are adjustable. note where the pins come out of the T-tops and lock into the body. Those little "wells" that the pins fit into can be adjusted up and down. Take off the plastic cover over them, and then loosen and move them to the desired position. Something to try anyway.

i can probably find a good 350...I'm guessing that would be a lot easier and a lot less modification

thanx again

im a jr fan and I have some insight into nascar. Get there early, dont drink before the race, get f*cked up in the parking lot after the race, park near some other jr fans with an RV so you can use there restroom, and bring a camera for the Mardi Gras action, if you know what im saying.
