I have a 2002 1.8T Tiptronic. The previous thread titled "High pitched noise" might be describing the exact problem that I have.
The only time that my car makes this noise which sounds like a high pitched whirring (SP?) or squeal is when I am sitting in gear at idle or I am approaching a stop and my car has downshifted into 2nd (Automatic). Also the engine pretty much has to be at idle while in 2nd before I hear the noise. When I accelerate the noise goes away, and it does not seem to be causing me any problems. The sound is also not there at idle if I am in park. I know that it is not a bearing or pulley, because I would hear it all the time. It is more annoying than anything else. Any thoughts? |

Re: High pitched noise, part II
I've seen several belt tensioner pulleys that make a squeal only at times, usually at first startup & only for a few seconds.

I does not happen at startup as described in many of the posts. The sound never goes away whether I have driven for 5 sec or 5 hours.

Re: High pitched noise, part II
You mention it's not in park, is it only when in gear?
