Is this safe to do?

This is probably a dumb question, but is it safe to start the motor befor i get my axels in and fluid in the trans as long as i keep it in neutral? Reason i am wondering is i am about to wrap up the motor end of my swap, but i still am going to put on new shocks, ball joints, tie rod ends, ect and i really can't wait to hear it run and plus if something is wrong then there is less to take apart if i need to get to something. Thanks Scott

Re: Is this safe to do?

i think neutral still spins the tranny, maybe if you push the clutch down it'll be safer.

fuck that man, start that beast up!! Theres nothing wrong with doing it for a little bit. Should keep the clutch in, but even if you didnt you more than likely wouldnt cause any damage. Like you said, if theres something wrong, theres that much less to take apart to get to it. good luck

Re: Is this safe to do?

the tranny will probably still spin wheather you push the clutch in or not, especially if its not adjusted, it shouldnt hurt anything to start it but i wouldnt sit around rappin it up for a half hour to listen to it

Re: Is this safe to do?

With the clutch engaged and in netural the input shaft will spin, nothing else should spin when in netural. With the clutch dis engaged only the clutch will spin. Should be safe.

Re: Is this safe to do?

Did you change anything on the internals, like new piston rings? If so, then read the article that i posted. Otherwise, I'd still wait, don't take a change.

Re: Is this safe to do?

no didn't change any internals, just gaskets, thermo, ect. Just pretty much everything external

Re: Is this safe to do?

what I'd worry about is that either one your not going to have oil in the tranny, and the input shaft may spin if your clutch catches at all, and two if you do put fluid in, it'll be all over the place.

I'd put the axels in and just put the control arms and rotors in place loosely
