Taurus to Continental?

Could anyone tell me what year of Taurus stuts will fit a '92 Continental. A friend of mine has the front struts that fit an'88 to '92 Taurus and I was wondering if those would work. Thanks,Jubil22

Re: Taurus to Continental?

The struts from a Taurus will fit as far as size and capacity are concerned. However, you will have to do several modifications for the mounting brackets and plates. The Taurus struts are NOT A BOLT IN SOLUTION. There are some modifications you have to make before they can begin to work. Also you run into a problem with load capacity. The Continental is much heavier in the front than a taurus. The strut itself should have the rebound and compression as a conti strut but you would have to change the springs to support the weight. If you ask me all of that is a VERY big head ache.

Thanks for the input Matthew_14. I went to a junk yard yesterday and picked up a set of taurus stuts and T-bird springs. They fit together perfectly. started removing the continental air struts at 9:00am. I had both sides done and driving at 11:00am. The mounting brackets and plates needed no modifications everything bolted on perfectly. I drove on some pretty rough roads purposely and it rode as well as it did before the air stuts went out. I'm not sure what other problems other people have run into but mine turned out to be a pretty simple task. Thanks again, Jubil22
