1995 Turbo Reliability

I'm sure you have all heard this before, but all I get I believe to be rumors. How reliable are the 1994-95 RX-7 Turbos? If I found one in perfect shape that was well taken care of, with around 50,000 - 75,000 miles on it, how long should I expect it to last. I have heard rumors of having to rebuild the motors every 50,000 miles. I love the car and plan on building it up to around 300 - 350 whp, but it would also need to be my daily driver. Can I expect a reliable car out of this.

Re: 1995 Turbo Reliability

if it is in fact WELL taken care of, then it will last for a while, but when boosting power (as with any engine) it becomes less reliable. 50k rebuilds? :bsflag:

if you want easy maintenance for 350hp, try nissan S chassis with sr20 or look at mustangs and f-bodys.

But what about 300whp. I read an article about HKS getting around 300whp with just bolt-ons and tuning. I'm sure this wouldn't kill the reliability of the car. How long can one expect the car to last, 100,000 miles? And if they don't last very long how difficult is the rebuild or how much would it cost me. I've done rebuilds on normal motors, V8 and I4, but I have never touched a rotory.

Re: 1995 Turbo Reliability

mine lasted till 120,000. then i went with the stock efini turbos from japan. they were 3200,, but brand new, 290 stock hp with a warranty. but plan on having a backup car, i work at a rental agency and drive a h2, or whatever else we have at the end of the night.
