Serious MP3 HU and speaker questions

Alright. I'm 99% sure I'm getting the MP3 HU now. My questions, and I need them answered!!

1) Whats the best MP3 HU out there?
2) What's the best MP3 HU out there for its price? (preferably under $270)
3) Whats the best speaker combo out there for the above MP3 HU's? (total price under $100 w/o tax for all 4 speakers)
4) If you can hook me up a good deal on any/all of these, let me know, and I'll give you a good deal on my cassette HU, factory HU, and current 20W speakers (all 4)

Notes: my EX model has tweeters installed separately as the 5th and 6th speakers, so tweeter quality isn't very important for the speakers.
I want GOOD bass at DECENT volume. Clean, rich sound is best. Original factory holes for speakers measuring 6.5" dia.

Thank you all for your continuing help as I get my ass off the fence!

i just picked up an installed a pioneer premier deh 740 or is it 730? well anyways it looks neat and has an mp3 player although i havent used it yet. when i do i'll give you the review. as for 4 speakers that are decent for unser a hundred....cough...good luck.

and unless you have an amp dont expect to have clean sound, headunits just dont take the cake in that department.

You could get decent sound from a high powered HU but there's no way you'll get decent speakers for $25 a piece. My Polks cost over $150 a pair. But they kick butt in SQ. And you want good bass, you'll NEED a separate amp.

I have the JVC-ks99 i think thats what it is.
It cost $280.
I have infinity kappa 3-way speakers too.
They cost me 110 for the rears(6x9) and 80for the fronts(6.5).
I got them off of netmarket.com
I love my head unit.
Plus netmarket adds an additional 2-year warranty on the items you buy.

not too encouraging!!

But I respect your honesty

I know I'm not gonna get kick-ass anything, but I want something better than factory, y'know? I don't have all the money in the world remember? (I think I'm only getting $100 this Birthday) ouch!

keep 'em coming, suggestions are key! (ps- please check out my copy post in the Audio forum, I found something rather interesting...)

I'd spend the money for a GOOD pair of front 6.5's and get the other two whenever you have money again.

Good advice... your FRONT speakers are the most important speakers you can have in your ride. Your other speakers are just sorta there, pointless to have them really.

But, that headunit you wanted -- I say go for it, but I wouldnt count on the power rating -- 25 x 4 is going to be it PEAK power, so now you are only talking about the SAME power that your damn STOCK headunit puts out. You are better off getting a cheap amp to push the new speakers, hey its got an RCA out -- USE IT!

It seemed like in the other threads you wanted those pioneers and NOW since i realize you have that seperate tweeter configuration, buy a compnent set and replace both speakers. I don't know how well the factory system does xover for the woofer and tweets, so it would be best to buy a comp set.... if you can't afford it now, always save up!! do it right the first time ya know what i mean?

Hey I have a 95 Ex coupe also. I put in an mp3 player about a year ago and I like it but it skips if you hit a bump too hard. I have the Awia mp3 player and it provides 45watts by 4 speakers. Also I replaced all the factory speakers with pioneer 3-ways. Their nice and provide decent bass but not like the mtx's and punch 500 I got in the trunk. If you have a burner then an mp3 player is the way to go because I can put like 200 songs ona cd easily. Theres only one problem, You have to scroll through all 200 songs individualy. It takes 100 clicks before I can get to song 100, thats a lot of clicking. Oh well, overe all I like it. But like the others, I would wait till you can afford good speakers before you go buy more cheap ones to replace you ractory ones.

I wonder how legal this is... but I'm listening.

OK, bunch of replys:

1) Rice-Rocketeer: Are you serious? The front ones will overshadow any performace lack of the rear speakers? If this is true then I might only get front ones, cuz the rear ones aren't CRAP they just aren't all that good.

2)sparq: decided against the HU for $140. Its a no-name brand from Canada, I don't wanna buy crap. I'll fork over the extra $100 for something decent. And I don't need an amp. I'm not THAT serious about my ICE. I just want something better, not totally kickin. Like I said, I'm on a tight budget.

3) Igo4bmx: what exactly is component set? I'm kinda confused on it. Also, my HU is not factory, its a 45W x 4 peak cassette HU. I still have the factory HU around somewhere though... Plus I'm prolly (probably)getting the MP3 HU anyways. Need info on the component set though...

4) JimsCivicEX: cool. I saw that Aiwa. If you ask me though, the SONY one is the same price, but it has ESP so no disc skip. That's why I'm looking at that SONY one, only $280 shipped on that Audio-something link above. And I'm liking those Pioneers, 4 for $95. not too shabby seeming at Circuit City. Plus I have an in there, I might get a discount.

5) dreemkill::finger: I'm gonna get some now just to spite your pessimism:silly2:

6)asnrefugee: ah yes, ebay. I tend to stay far and away from there, but my Aunt does mega buying/selling there, I might have her give it a go. Thanks.

keeeeeeeep it coming!!
