Stalling on 86 FB

I have an 86 Firebird with 120K on it. Its a 6 cyl. Lately, it has been stalling infrequently when i brake. If i throw it in neutral and give it a little gas its okay, but Id like to solve the problem.

It has been a while since its been tuned up and I am about to try that, but are there any other ideas on what could need a look? Fuel filter?

I am a novice so I would appreciate any input.

sounds like a fuel filter to me... but are there any other symptoms that are going with it? any type of miss at all? or ever not take the throttle... that is a 2.8 crossfire multiport in there rite?

Yes, its the 2.8 multiport. No missing... just the stalling. some days more frequent then others.

the fuel filter occurs to me. it is in need of a tune up and im thinking of doing that and seeing where it is...

id appreciate any advice.. and if anyone knows a reputable mechanic in the orlando area for this car.... refer em on ...

Re: Stalling on 86 FB

id say that it sounds like an O2 sensor, Mass Air Flow Sensor, or fuel filter... usually if it is the O2 sensor there is misfire aswell... so maybe check the others first, however the MAF will probly be the most expencive out of all that... good luck and let us know how it turns out...

Re: Re: Stalling on 86 FB

Well i tuned it up and had a fuel filter replaced. Its running much better now, but there still feels like a "threat" to stall when im standing still in neutral. But there is an overall better acceleration and stability to the car when I apply the brakes.

I am gonna look at the O2 sensor next.
