Re: egr mod???

Not worth it, no proven results whatsoever.

An engine will perform better and get better economy with a properly running EGR system.

Re: egr mod???

at most, if the egr system is giving you trouble, take it off and clean it

Re: egr mod???

No proven results??? Various dyno results during the initial creation of the mod have shown anywhere between a 4-9 hp increase, avg 1-3 mpg increase and more torque through the low to mid power band...If you want to see the dyno results from various trucks with and without the mod, contact OBIWAN at www.sicgmtrucks.com. (yes, the mod is useless at WOT)...

Re: egr mod???

Again, simply go to www.sicgmtrucks.com and aski obiwan for the dyno slips.... Hell, GM themselves built the restriction into the system for the 2002+ motors..

Re: egr mod???

Hello,

We used to remove the EGR all the time on carbed motors and I have my '89 TBI EGR free as well. The EGR was originally an afterthought EC device.

Please remember however that the EGR lowers chamber temps. On a standard Chevy smallblock V8 the removal of the EGR valve puts the chamber pressures up from 2000deg F to 4000deg F.

I would not run this mod on anything with Al block, Al heads.

Re: egr mod???

Certainly don't advocate BLOCKING off the EGR. This ends up being a fairly bad thing. Restricting the EGR is ok. As long as you restrict it to still allow 10% NOx you will still pass emissions without issue, and you have the added benifit of a better throttle response time off the line a better low to mid range torque. Slightly better gas miledge as well. It is usless at WOT, but the mod isn't done for that..

WOT=wide open throttle.

EGR is used to reduce NOX by reducing combustion temps. This is done by introducing inert exhaust gas back into the combustion chamber.
One of the benefits of EGR is an increase in fuel mileage do to the fact that the inert exhaust gas displaces some of the air/fuel mixture…less air/fuel= better mileage.
The down fall of EGR is that the reduced presence of air/fuel means the engine has a decrease in power during off idle and cruising.
By reducing the amount of EGR, you can gain a small amount of horsepower.
The reason why the EGR mod does not work during WOT is because EGR is disabled during WOT events

Re: egr mod???

i remember reading some where that they tested it and that you gained power in the low to mid range but lost it at the high range. i did notice a inprovment in mpg with it. its off now. i had the hole to a 1/4" because 1/8 was to small.
