i put a new intake on my 86 a holley competitor and now it will start and run for about 15 secpmds but wpnt idle if you keep giving it gas it will keep running but wil not idle when i rebuilt the heads a year ago i got rid of as much of the emmission controls as possible so i was wondering if this could be a vaccum problem timing i moved the distrubitor all over nothing works or if i need to adjust the carb it has the original quadrajet i ran out of money for the time being so i cant upgrade for a while any suggestions on what to do to make it work

Re: intake

quadrajets seem to be very picky carbs. I rebuilt the one on my 86 and I had to tear it apart and put it back together 3 times before it ran like it was supposed to. The problems I was running into was that pieces of dirt kept getting into the idle jets and the truck wouldn't run unless I held the gas pedal down. which sounds like your problem. Might be a good idea to get a manual and check external adjustments first. If you have to clean out the carb, use compressed air to blow it all out, that worked for me.
