s 10 fuel gauge

Wanted to find out if i can replace the sender only.
Not the fuel pump as they cost an arm and a leg.

Truck is 1997 ...seem to be getting the run around from
the parts house. some say yes some no, some aren't sure.
And the cost is almost 600.00 for a ####ing fuel pump.
Was thinking about replaceing the whole thing until i found
out the price. Have only had the truck for 4 months, but the
guy i bought it from said he replaced the pump just 2 years
ago.The gauge needle is all over the place,so i never know
how much gas i have.

Re: s 10 fuel gauge

I believe that most are seperate from the fuel pump, so I'd say yes.

if you can tell us what year your truck is someone would probably be able to tell you for sure.

However since you'll have to get the parts from the parts store your probably best off to just ask them

If you are replacing the sender, I would replace the pump anyways seeing it will probably fail too soon.

Actually the pump is way cheaper then the sending unit... Around 80 for a pump, about 250 for the sending unit...

Re: s 10 fuel gauge

My issue with my gauge is that I have no warning when I am low, once it gets to the empty bubble, you need to stop right away. Some cars you have a little more to drive to get to an station

Re: s 10 fuel gauge

All that I can say about the cost of the sender is OUCH!

if it was my truck I would just watch the fuel gauge a little more.

That is at-least until I had to change the fuel pump
