Question 94 Safari squeling

Hi
My parents have a '94 Safari with 222000kms. We've been having problems for the past few months with the van squealing. It only happens when your foot is let off the gas or when you are idling. This happens almost continiously, but sometimes it will dissappear when the van is cold in -20 weather, or when you punch the gas hard when slowing down. I have tried replacing the belt, but right away it started again, and i have pinpointed the noise to the first pulley on the right of the tensioner. i don't know what that is, and do i have to replace the whole part, bearings or what, and how much will it cost. If i could get a response ASAP b/c its driving everyone close to my van nuts, that'd be great

Re: 94 Safari squeling

Assuming you don't have a coolant leak from a bad water pump, I would suspect the alternator. If you haven't changed it yet, it could be the culprit. Could you let us know if that is the part that is "to the right" of the tensioner?

Also, you may want to completely remove the belt and run the engine briefly to make sure the squeal is gone. That way you know it's one of the accessory drives and not something inside the engine causing the noise.

Hi
I found the problem to be the A/C clutch, and i have found one from a '93 astro from a family friend. Thanks for the help though.
