2.3 vs. 3.1 V6

Questions...questions. K,my 2.3 is dying...slowly but surely. I have the 2.3 litre, 150hp and 4 speed auto trans. Is the tranny compatible with the 3.1 v6? I pretty sure the wiring etc, would have to be changed. Or would I be better off going with another 2.3 out of an achieva or skylark? I've heard of the 3.8 and maybe 3300 outta the above mentioned. The more horsepower here the better. I can almost take my boyfriends 02 Svt focus, and my dream is to kick his ass. Ford vs. Chev thing. Or should I just get the engine rebuilt? My brother's do all the work so $ is not the issue, it's just hard to find parts for the 2.3 litre...Any suggestions by you Chevy buffs would be appreciated...thanks

Re: 2.3 vs. 3.1 V6

beef the 2.3L, the hassles and problems with a swapped engine never seem to stop. i swapped a 2.8L v6 for a 388ci V8, one of the easiest swaps known to cars, and i still have problems with it. while he has the engine apart, have the head ported and polished with S.S. valves slightly oversized put in. look into a performance cam from crane or compcams. go with total seal gapless piston rings, and if you have the money for it, lightweight pistons. an underdrive pulley kit and some headers would make that ford cry as you got a car's length on him in first gear alone.
