goofy starting stuff

For the last few weeks (say about 5) everynow and then I'd go to start my car and it would act as though the battery were dead (slow turning starter, not starting, everything going all dim and wierd like) this was all fixed by lighting up a smoke and cursing a few times.

then yesterday... it happened, same sorta deal... just it stayed that way.

had the battery tested at schucks and it's "better than it should be?"

i'm not much of an automotive type person, my brother fills that role in the family... he says the starter is probably on the fritz, I'm not sure about this because it does crank, just too slow to do anything...

any ideas on this sparatic problem..

It could be various problems. It could be a bad conection (ground or power), it could be solnoid, it could be starter or it could be something draining your battery over time.

When you say things are going dim, is it while driving or when cranking your car? If it's during you cranking your car it's normal, however if it's during driving periods, I'd susspect alternator problems.

Make sure your battery posts are nice and clean and make sure your conections at your starter are clean and tight.

Question Re: goofy starting stuff

while starting.... just seems more than normal...

the battery terminals are all clean, wire brushed the things last night before gettig her tested.

Thanks for the ideas... trying to pull the starter last night, having some trouble with that, how many bolts should be holding it on?

there was something that looked like a bolt with a broken head on the bottom of (what i assume is the starter) twords the front of the car...other than that we (by we I mean my brother) pulled two others and the guy holding all the wires on, and she still wasn't coming off...

Same thing

Im having the same problem with my 1996 ford Taurus. I had the battery and alt replaced about a year ago so I know they are good. It only seem to happen after I play the tape deck with the Ipod plugged in. It could be a fluke but that seems to be when it happens.

Ahhh, this is why I wish every car was rear wheel drive. Those front wheel yingers are stubborn!
