Daytime Running Lights

well im kinda glad i ran across this site. i was searching for a troubleshooting site and found this one, yall seem pretty helpful. but anywho, i have a 1996 Chevy Silverado and about 2 months ago my daytime running lights just stopped working. as you all know they are the same bulbs as the regular headlights without the oranges. my DRL's stopped workin but my headlight works fine when i turn them on. i know about the override switch, that dont work, and my parking break is not engaged, and i checked the fuse and it looks fine. what else could cause the problem... any suggestions?

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Isn't there a DRL Relay in the Electrical Center/Fuse box? Just a thought.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

I owned a 1996 Tahoe a few years back and had the same problem. Ended up replacing the switch and that took care of the problem.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Sorry, I wasn't very descriptive in the previous post, since there is no switch for the drl's. The whole park/headlight switch assembly was replaced and that took care of the problem

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Personally, I'd be happy if mine quit working... all they do is waste power. I know how to turn em off, but it becomes a PITA to push the "dome override" button 4 times every time I get in the truck.

Re: Daytime Running Lights

Don't remember for sure, memory is starting to go south but it seems like it was in the $50-$70 range for the switch assembly.

I thought that this just disabled the Automatic Headlight control? Not the DRL's?

It does both... shuts off DRL's during the day, and puts your headlights back on manual control

Re: Re: Re: Re: Daytime Running Lights

I would say try to find your drl diode they blow well the solder lets go. On the 1995 to 1998 the diode is to the right of the steering column look like a heatsink about 2" high 1 1/2" wide...
