would 18's fit on a 96 eclipse without having problems rubbing?? it's not lowered or anything. but if it would be a hassle to have 18's I'll just go for something smaller. How bad would 18's offset the speedometer?

Yes they will fit. I don't know what the offset will be. But if you dont lower it, I think it will look dorky, especially with the 18's on there, but its up to you.

18's with a 40 profile tire look very nice on an eclipse, even without being lowered. i don't think that it offsets the speedometer much at all, maybe 1 mph or something and you would have no trouble with rubbing. the 18" rim has nothing to do with rubbing, it's the size of the tire that you put on.

1" bigger/smaller diamater tire is about 3-4 mph off. therefore 1" bigger, you would be going 3-4 mph faster than the speedo says and 1" smaller and you're actually going 3-4 mph slower than the speedo says.

If you want 18's, 40 profile will be the way to keep your spedo as accurate as possible (within fractions of a percentage point, since you have a 96 which I think only came with 16's). Lower the car, why not. Whether or not it'll look silly without being lowered, it's sure to look better if it is.
