2000 Alero GX

Hey I was just wondering, I Just bought a 2000 alero GX (base model) coupe. it has the 2.4 liter and has 82,000 miles on it. I was wondering what problems anyone has encountered on or around this milage as the car is still under a short dealer warranty period. Also i was wondering what is the best way to wash off the engine? the whole engine compratment seems dirty but no rust at all or anything. Ive never washed an engine before, is it even possible to do that? Thanks!

Re: 2000 Alero GX

What I usually do is shut the car off and LET THE ENGINE COOL. Then just hose it down with plain ol water.

Do you think a garbage bag or something over the battery and alternator would work?

I was always taught to do it with the motor running. Just take by a self serve car wash and use the tire/engine cleaner setting then rince her off. Works for me and I do all my cars every other month or so... I like a clean motor...
