Gateway isn't the only one with bad luck

I just nailed a 6" deep pothole in this zero visibility crap on the highway going back to school tonight. 2 rims are bent to hell, and my brother's computer cpu died from the jolt. All this just a few days after I get the oil cooler finally fixed. So yeah, I can't afford any of this...so I'm working towards getting the state to pay for it...wish me luck...otherwise I'm f%$&ed.

Damn man, that just sucks. I was watching the news the other day and somehow the state of PA is now no longer going to have to pay for damages caused by faulty roads. Good luck.

Yes it is possible to get the state to pay for it if its not written that they dont have to. My aunt had damage caused to her vehicle caused by a bad road in WV and the state had to pay to fix it.

Re: Gateway isn't the only one with bad luck

first off all there is no way u can get the state to pay for it, dont even waste your time!!! then do u have insurance and how much is ur deductable, because i hit the curb if you remeber and i bent up a rim and that wasent not the only thing that got messed up so if you have like a $500 deductable i will go to a body shop and tell them to do a estamite for the damage and if its a whole lot you can give it do your insurance company and make them pay for it or get the money from them and fixed yourself (like i did). Was that your stock wheelz??? if its your stock ones i have two of my stock one are in perfect conditioin and i can hook you up.
NOW U KNOW HOW I FELT when that crap happen to me!!!! lol i hope it dosent happen to anybody else because it sux ass!!! that was the last thing i thougth that would happen to my car to bent up a rim.
I hope you can get some money from the state do!!!

Re: Gateway isn't the only one with bad luck

g35 yeah they are the stock 18 chromes...I'm just frustrated to hell. My aunt is pissed at me for not getting hte police involved...but truth be told I never even thought of the idea. I've called the PA turnpike commission for damages and they logged my call and said call again at 9AM. I didn't get to look at how bad the rims were in total light. But in partial street lamp light, one is noticeably screwed, the other isn't as bad, but that isn't to say it is good. They held air long enough for me to drive another 60miles...but I drove the whole way at 60mph with my hazards on.

It just really sucks because this was like the one damn time I was doing everything right and legal. I usually fly on this trip...this time due to weather I never even hit the speed limit. I mean there was so little visibility and I hydrdoplaned a good 30 times...I was SOOO safe and careful and then WHAMM. And it was so hard I knew my rims were screwed and my bro knew his computer took a bad hit as well. So we drove another 60 miles just knowing it.

I'm really worried about the computer, I doubt I'll be able to prove much, and I really doubt the state will want to write me a thousand dollar check. But it just isn't fair. It's a toll road...I drop $100 on it every year at least...I pay taxes...wtf. I swear I'll go to the governor on this one...even if it doesn't do any good, because I'm pissed.

Oh and here is the clincher...my insurance deductible is a grand...yeah me, I'll get no help from them, and they'll probably raise my rates too. It just sucks to know that I was driving as safe as possible and under the speed limit and I get screwed.

If your in PA, the Rendell is the ass monger responsible for alot of shiiit that has gone wrong lately. Bush lowers the federal tax on pay checks, then a month later Rendell raised PA tax on checks. I hope you can get something out of it and keep us posted.

Re: Gateway isn't the only one with bad luck

Yea I've been noticing how bad the roads are this spring, you'd think the states would just pony up the money to build deecent ones with deecent foundations (at least the major ones where you go over 35), they might even save money in the long run.... but they all drive luxury cars and don't notice if they hit a bump... 3 of my rims are bend but hold air perfect.. I'm looking into a local place that specializes in bent rim repair. Are yours repairable?

Re: Gateway isn't the only one with bad luck

ya, it might of been a good idea to ge a police report!!!! I was thinking and u might want to this: Get yourself a camera and take your car and go back to the highway and put u r car in the same pothole and then take few pics and then call the cops and tell them that you just hit it and get a report and you got pics and everything and you can prove to your state that it was bent because of the pothole or i dont think they would believe without pics or police report. I just hope you can get something from those god damn F***ERS.

oh what else you can do is if you know a lawyer and tell him or she to write a letter from there office and send a letter to your state, i think they will pay attention to a lawyer rather than normal person.

That sucks Igovert. I hope you can salvage some money from someone to pay for it. Just today, a girl in my class hit one too and put a huge bulge in her tire. PA roads suck.

Re: Gateway isn't the only one with bad luck

Well I spent all day writing a statement, getting estimates and taking pictures and such. Now I have 2 rolls of developed film, so I'll post pics (and car pics for the contest soon). I triplicated everything and will send it out in an hour or so.
Funny thing is the 2 estimates I got were for $1400...who woulda thought dealerships overcharging you would actually maybe work to your advantage one day.

Edit: The other redeeming thing was that my brother just got his computer up and working again. So apparently only my rims are busted.

Re: Gateway isn't the only one with bad luck

wow my name is in a post

anyways sorry that happened, and hopefully everything works out.

FYI if you do go through your insurance instead of having the state pay it, that will be a collision claim, and that is surchargable, and you could see an increase in your rates. however, if your insurance company pays <$1000 then it's not surchargable and you won't have to pay (this is in NY, in other states the threshold is different) so if it's $1400 in damages, and your ded. is $500, then the insurance company would pay the other $900 and you would not see an increase in your rates. However, I would check with your insurance company because they might try to add the ded to the damages they pay out, which would bring it over the $1000 threshold.

Re: Gateway isn't the only one with bad luck

also go to some expenisve bodyshops and get some more estamites. Its better to have 2 to 3 estamites that are about $1400 to $1500 that way they cant say that the dealer is to expinsive and i think a bodyshop can give u a better estamites anyways because they can check and see if the body is damaged. also my insurance payed for my tire so see if you can get that to!!!!(they payed me $250 for a tire thats 2yrs old lol dumb asses!!!!)
