coolant leak

Hi All!!

I was making an Easter trip and while getting fuel, I noticed that I had a slow (like a drip a second) coolant leak around the water pump at the front of my engine, (1994-3.4l v-6). I have looked on this forum for tips on a water pump replacement, but can I just replace the water pump gasket only? I dont know how much a water pump costs and am not afraid of the job, I am just trying to save a few bucks. Any advice as to if this is worth it or should I just replace the water pump and call it a day?

As always, any advice is welcome and APPRECIATED!

Thanks for reading!!

Jack

If there is a steady drip coming from under the pump, chances are that the pump is going bad. I don't know about a V6, but virtually all V8 chevy water pumps, there is a weep hole at the bottom of the pump. I believe it leaks coolant when the bearing are about to go.
My advice, you should "just replace the water pump and call it a day."

Re: coolant leak

thank you to all for responding, I took your advice and went to Aotuzone, got the pump, jacked the car, drained the coolant--and guess what--the numb skull at autozone sold me the water pump for a 96 Camaro INSTEAD of a 94 Camaro. My point is...YOU cannot trust the people at these places!!!

But now that I am done swearing...thanks again to all!!

Re: coolant leak

So don't go to autozone, I've never trusted those guys at all. I do all my business through either CSK or Advance. (Plus, my buddy works at advance and he knows his shit.)
