Thought I should throw this out there...

in my sig it shows how much money i have in buying the s14 sr20det engine swap for my 93 240sx, I was wondering what you guys think of the s14 swap and if it is really worth the extra grand. I did some research on google but now im stumped as to what I should do.

Re: Thought I should throw this out there...

You get the VVL and like 10 extra horses and might get lower kms, if you go with an upgraded turbo, you might as well go with the S13 blacktop, same miles as the notchtop, but without the VVL which I've heard isn't all that needed when tuning.

Re: Thought I should throw this out there...

and you'd definitely be surprised at how easy engine swapping is. im not saying that it isnt hard, and ive personally have never done an SR swap, but i just swapped a civic hathbacks stock motor, for a D15, just me and a friend and an engine hoist, and it took us about 6 hrs, i never really knew that i knew so much about cars , we have it running and moving (long story), but everytime we rev it up it bogs down past 3.5k.... o well, i hope im giving you some motivation to do it.

Swap is easy, wiring seems like a little bit of a hassle. We need your goals before we can compose an adequite decision.

the S14 SR20DET have a different head, and has a VVT system. the main reason why i would get a S14 is for that variable cam timing system. also if your not planning to upgrade the turbo anytime soon, the S14 SR comes with a larger T28 turbo which is good for around 280whp i believe. so the VVT system helps with low end tq to elimate that turbo lag feel, the only thing is that it doesn't come with larger injectors. they're still running on 370cc injectors. the S15 comes with 480cc injectors which can support that 280whp range. i would get the S14 engine and find some used S15 480cc injectors for like $250 then run it with the SAFC.

if your planning to upgrade the turbo anyways, then the S13 SR is better because they have better flowing heads, and is cheaper to buy.

Re: Thought I should throw this out there...

The S14 has VTC (variable intake timing), a low port head, and has 370cc injectors like tat said. The S15 has 444cc injectors and pretty much the same head and timing controls as the S15. It even uses the same size turbo, but is made of better ceramic material and has a newer improved wastegate design for better flow.

Re: Thought I should throw this out there...

Correction: S14 SR20 has variable timing ONLY on the intake side, while S15 engine has VVT (variable valve timing) on both, the exhaust and the intake side. S15 also uses a GT turbo (think gt28-somethingm, please correct) and the S14 uses a T28.

The S15 just has a Ball Bearing T28. The GT28 is some wack aftermarket turbo with a t25 exhaust and huge Compressor. The GT28RS on the other hand...

Re: Thought I should throw this out there...

If anyone was paying attention, you would know he was planning for the Blitz turbo kit and he's worried about money so the S13 is his best bet, end of discussion.

Re: Thought I should throw this out there...

the VVT isnt useful after you upgrade the turbo? I would still probably get a S14 because it would be easier to find one with lower miles...
