1:43 206

I got this kit for easter, its a heller. I started I figured I could get it finished pretty quickly. That all changed when I spyed an eclipse I had sitting around and I decided to put the engine into the 206. Heres what I've got so far.

Some miscelanous parts, like the rest of the engine, wheels, seat started and the rollcage tubing. Does it look the right size?

Re: 1:43 206

Is that the 2003 kit with those gravel wheels?

For roll cage tubing, you want to use about 1.2mm tubing. Plastruct makes some with wire in the middle, so it holds it's shape when you bend it.

Re: 1:43 206

The eclispe was a modifers I got a long time ago. And this is the 2003 version. I know thetubing I have there is 1/16" which is 1.5mm. I think that should be good. Any idea where I can get that tubing in case I change my mind? thanks

But I got mine at my LHS. I'm told that since it's butyrate, some regular cements won't work on it, but that Testors Model Master cement, in the square bottle with the needle point, does work (It's for ABS as well as styrene). You could also just use superglue and be done with it, which I would recommend because of the metal wire inside.

Thanks for the link I think I'll get some of that for my next 1:43 rally car.

::UPDATE::

I started the rollcage with 1/16" styrene rod and wire. I haven't got to far, but its progress. I also worked on the engine, I'm not going for realism here, just looks. I don't care if its not the right engine or looks wrong.

Re: 1:43 206

I have a cage drawn up pretty to-scale for that 206 (The side at least, I forget about the main hoop). I can scan it for you if you want.

That would be awesome, I was going to start the sides but I have no idea on how to do it.

Re: 1:43 206

Just a quick little update, dash and seats are done and decaled. I also have one wheel done I tried to make it look as real as I could get it. The seat decals were a little hard an dI just gave up on them, but its 1:43 I don't think it will make that much of a difference.

Re: 1:43 206

OK, I will find and scan them tonight. I used my Tamiya 206 as a basis for the cage.

So the 2003 has separate seats? Cool. I have the 1999 and the 2001, and both have the same molded-in seats, which I removed an am going to make a second pass at casting the seats from one of my other Hellers.

I just bought a Citroen ZX Dakar racer and older Impreza from Heller on eBay: Now if only I could find the Dakar 205 T16, the Pike's Peak 406, the Delta S4, and Renault 5, I'd be set.

JDM-AE86 your right the engine parts came from an eclipse modifier.

Yep seperate seats, thats why I got the 2003 version. I heard it somewhere and got this one. Good Luck trying to cast the seats. I evently want to cast some tires, rims, and whole engines.

I just picked up a Heller Peugeot 905 off ebay for $9 shipped I also wann to get some more of the Heller rally cars and one of there Mini Coopers. I thinked I'm hooked on these 1:43 kits now. lol

Re: 1:43 206

OK, took some shots of my Tamiya cage for you, and included the sketch I made some months back (Looked better then LOL).

http://public.fotki.com/SteveK2004/peugeot_206_cage/

The side panels haven't been used in years, but Tamiya hasn't removed them for whatever reason (IE Cheaper and easier to leave them on). I don't know how to exactly scale it down, but the graph paper is 5 squares per inch.

I agree, those Heller kits are addictive. I have the Focus, Lancer Evo VII, 1999 and 2001 206, a 205 T16, a Renault Dakar wagon, a Mercedes C9, and I just won the Citroen XZ Dakar and a 2000 Impreza. I also want one of those Minis. For everything I have to this point, I could have bought maybe 1 resin 1/43rd kit, which wouldn't be much more detailed.

I recently found you can get decals and PE parts and other goodies for some of these cars as well.

Re: 1:43 206

thanks for the shots Steve, they have so far been helping me on the cage. I have only had one real problem and its that my cage I started with is too short. I didn't fix it though, maybe on my next it will be better. I just picked up four 1:43 heller's off ebay for 20 dollars shipped. 3 F1's and a Peugeot 206 rally.

Heres a cuople pictures, engine bay is finished just need to add the strut bar and I started to paint the cage. I know the one bar isn't there on the real car, but it was easier for me to add it anyway. I think it looks fine and again I'm not going for perfection.

Re: 1:43 206

Yeah, custom work like that can take a lot of time, especially on such a small scale. What I do is take some solder and press it inside the body (It's soft but holds it's shape) and then traced it out, and then cut the basic shape from flattened tissue boxes and test-fit that.

You may find you have to make several attempts at a scratch-built part before you get one that looks right, but don't sweat it, since the materials are so cheap. At $5 for 12 rods, if you use an entire one for a cage and it doesn't look good, you're out 60 cents.
