ok i get home from spring break turn on my car and bam the check engine light comes on. I go to investigate it and i decide there must be something wrong with the cold air intake. I take off my bumper and what do i see, the cone filter has fallen off its base and there is water sitting in the tube. So i wanna know how bad water is gonna be for my engine and what to do from here?

Re: !HELP! water in my engine
No bi-pass man ! Sucky..When that happen to our Accord w/ a AEM CAI we let it sit for a good 4 days and it started right up. I also jacked up the front as much as I can and water spilled out of the exhaust. I would give it some time dont start the car for a while let it dry up from my experience. Of course it can cause damage, what I dont understand is where you driving without in on or was it just sitting there in a puddle and you sucked water right up when u started it ?

Re: !HELP! water in my engine
Does the car run right?
Usually after the intake sucks in enough water it can cause the connecting rods to bend.

Re: !HELP! water in my engine
The rods are connected to the pistons. If she runs ok then chances are you are safe.

Re: !HELP! water in my engine
On the topic of cold air intakes, I'm new to the car scene and I was wondering if they take on water when it rains, and how you can prevent this, because I'm thinking of getting one. It might sound like a stupid question, but can someone please let me know? Thanks.

Re: !HELP! water in my engine
old post guys, but to answer siege's question. Pick up a bypass valve for your intake.

Re: !HELP! water in my engine
Yeah, thanks... I was just looking at AEM's website and saw the bypass valve. Guess you can't be too safe when it comes to protecting your engine.
