Re: New 300m Owner
Transmissions are often the one component of a vehicle that is more neglected than the Engine and neglecting them will eventually be what takes it out.
If maintained properly as in changing the fluid REGULARLY and not letting it get dark before the change, and you use the PROPER type of fluid that is approved by Chrysler, it will live to 100K and beyond. If you use the wrong fluid in it you will ruin it.
Case in point, my parents own a 94 New Yorker that they bought brand new, that car currently has 160K+ on the odometer, and it still has the factory transaxle in it, and still shifts fine with no slippage, the only ill effect it ever had is one day on the highway it went into 2nd gear (limp mode) and stayed there, they were close to a rest area so they pulled off and shut the car off, then after about 10 minutes they restarted it and checked the fluid and found it was full, red in color and not burnt, they then drove the car home and it ran fine like nothing ever happened. They took it to the dealer to see if there was any trouble codes in the tranny and the dealer couldn't find any codes or anything else wrong and the tranny has not done it since that one day. And yes they change the fluid regularly.
