mixing antifreeze

I recently bought a 98 tacoma and it has orange antifreeze in it now. It's a little bit low, can I put the green kind in to fill it up?I have the green kind already and would rather use that up before buying some more.

Re: mixing antifreeze

It's not a good idea to mix coolants because they have different corrosion inhibitors and may not mix well. Texaco to name one makes a red coolant that meets Toyota requirements.

dont mix unless it tells you you can. if the two arent supposed to mix i could turn th coolent into a jell. that would be bad. so its a good idea to drain it, flush it, and replace it.

Re: mixing antifreeze

Most coolants can be intermix regardless of the color. I mix the green and orange ones all the time. Coolants are nothing but rust inhibitors with anti-freezing qualities. Note: There two chemically different coolants however which should not be mixed. One is the ethrlyne-glycol which is the most popular, the other I don't know.
