Will headers hurt anything?

Gibson I believe, makes a set of headers for the 4.7. They run about $300-400 and they are a bolt on install. They claim that they flow about 40% more than stock manifolds. Will this cause any adverse effects to the engine? Everything that I've heard about headers is that they allow the motor to "breathe" better, which I've always heard is a good thing for power and mileage. Would I have to get a reprogrammer for the computer do to the change of backpressure? Any sensor swaps? Anyone with a little more indepth knowledge of this subject matter a response would be much appreciated. Thanks,

most header are just that, bolt-on and go. All you will need to do is replace the stock oxygen sensors and put them in the holes pre-made in the headers and you're set to go, no need to reprogram anything. I did it on a buddy's '02 Dakota, took me half an hour to do.

Don't bother in changing the headers. First off the Gibson headers are shorty headers which are geared for higher rpm's and only make (if) 1-3hp not worth it!!! Long tube headers would be the answer for better torque. But they don't make them for our trucks.

Also the stock manifold flow very well for our motors. If you want to get a little more power I suggest replacing the muffler with a high flow one and getting the "Y" pipe redone to flow better. Look at the stock "Y" pipe on your truck, you'll see what I'm saying. Some of the piping is 1.75" in size and crushed together to form the "Y" pipe. Which is not good!!

Adding an intake system would help make your motor breathe better. You'll make more power and get better MPG with this combo, and get a V8 sound to boot.

headers are better for motors thats why most tuners the first thing they replace is the air cleaner and the exghast

Yes this would be the case with most vehicles but with the 4.7 Dakota the stock headers flow just as good as the aftermarket. If he want's to spend $400 on nice looking headers that's all he will get.

no vechile comes with headers from factory they come with bad exhaust with no mandral bends and the flow from them suck they are called manifolds from the factory no headers the stock exhaust has lots of problems to them they are very restrictive and they dont flow as good as headers and a cat back or full replacement exhaust

I'm not going to get into an argument over headers and manifolds. The stock exhaust on the 4.7 is not bad. The only problem is the "Y" pipe which is too small and crushed bent and the muffler which isn't a high flow one. The rest of the piping is pretty straight and the tail pipe from the muffler on is mandrel bent from the factory.

no pipes are mandral bent from factory they are pinched not a good bend but i do agree with the straight piping and stuff lets drop this now i dont want it to get out of hand
