Thermostat Question
When I bought my new thermostat, the Napa parts people asked me if I needed a new gasket to go with the thermostat. I said sure. So I bought both and went home to replace them. When I took off the thermostat housing there was no gasket on there expect a rubber type gasket that fit on the thermostat itself which the new thermostat didn't come with. Also, the "paper" type gasket they gave me doesn't fit. My question is, does the thermostat housing need one of the "paper" type gaskets? Also, should I replace the rubber ring gasket around the thermostat? It's a '94 Metro 3 cylinder.

Yes, you will want to use the paper gasket. And yes, the NAPA gaskets do not fit exactly right. What I have done is to trim the bolt holes towards the gasket opening using a razer blade, being careful not to remove too much gasket material. If you do this carefully you will get a good seal and no leaks.

Use a thin coat of Permatex water pump sealant also and you will have no problems.
