2000 EB Expedition average miles per gallon
I have a 2000 EB Expedition that has always had a consistant average miles per gallon of around 13-14 city or open highway....no matter how you drive it...very little change.. After a trip north and lossing all electronics from and alternator going out, imediatly after the new install of the alternator, the average miles per gallon starter ticking up from around 13.5 all the way up to 18.5 miles per gallon which was a first..Since then it will still flucutate between 14- 17 on short trips...Is this normal for that much variation on short runs. Something doent seem right after driving the vehicle of the lot new and never getting over 14 mpg, and having a service man tell you that 14mpg is about the best you can get out of and Expedition with a 5.4l. Has any one had any similar problems like this. Thanks for any response.

I have a 2000 XLT 4.6, get the same 13-14 mixed driving; maybe 15 all hwy. Has K&N filter, factory exhaust. I can't imagine how an alternator replacement could affect gas mileage? Are you manually checking the mileage, or going by an on-board computer? If by computer, perhaps varying voltage has made the computer work differently. I've never heard of a 5.4 getting 18 mpg.

2000 EXPY Average miles
Hey, I just purchased a 2001 EB EXPYmyself. that 13-14 miles is what u get in the city. on longer runs depending on how U drive, U can get 17.5 or better. the reason ur Expy. showed 18 after loosing power, is because it reset itself. U were driving with the driving habits and info of the previous owner. U can reset holding down the Mode button and the button next to it for a few seconds, it will zero out and start counting new everytime U do so. good luck with ur Baby man.
