Buying SVT

ok i have found a 1998 SVT its only $2,500, but it has a number of problems.

1. bad 1st and 2nd gear 3rd and 4th ok but could be better.
2. some eletrical probs
3. some body damage
4. hesitates when i get on the gas.
ect.

should i buy it or should i let it go.

i dont have tons of $ to spend on it (after i buy it) less then $2k

I wouldnt. Tranny work alone would probably run you about $700-1000+ assuming you could pull the transmission on your own. The engine does need to dropped for the trans to be removed. Not sure what your electrical problems entail, but all new main wiring harnesses under the rood would run you about $1300 + labor. Hesitation is probably due to a fuel filter. Too many headaches imho.

Re: Buying SVT

If you were going to buy this one for $2500 and spend another $2000, you could probably find a decent, non-beaten to hell 98 for around $4-5k.

sounds like it might be a good deal. Might be cheaper to just replace the hood with a carbon fiber one.

theres also carbon fiber hoods available in the oem shape.

Re: Buying SVT

why not buy a post-98 SE and get an SVT body kit.. And get a few performance mods?..

Almost as fast.. less the insurance.
