Question Winshield wipers stopping

My wife just called from I-95. It is raining like $#% and the wipers have decided to stop working. She turned them from the high setting to the low setting, and then "smacked" the wipers themselves and then they started to work again. She is afraid to put them on high again.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Greg

She smacked the wipers themselves? Leaving them on Low and driving a little slower to at least get home is better than not at all!

Possibilities include:

Loose, corroded, wet or misaligned pins on electrical connector to wiper motor under the cowl.
Wiper arm to output shaft loose.
Impending failure of wiper motor due to corrosion, water, wear ect.
Intermittant failure of stalk switch. Try rotating through all positions.
Does delay timer still work?

Re: Winshield wipers stopping

On the '99 and later, there are two little plug-in relays in the battery fuse box that power the wipers. I've replaced several ... in fact, need to replace one now. #202 and #209 on the '99 .... look in your glovebox manual.

Don't know what was done on '98 and earlier models.

Thanks, I'll check the suggestions.

Personally, I prefer my 86 F250 with NO ELECTRONICS!
