milage on 2.0L jetta

Does anyone have an idea on what the Miles per Gallon should be on a 1997 jetta with a 2.0L motor and a automatic transmission. Right now I am getting 20-21 mpg, that does not seem right. I got rid of a big cadillac with a v-8 that got better milage. I have just tune the car up. new plugs and cap and rotor. New air filter, and the car has brand new tires. Other than the milage the car runs great. Any ideas what the problem might be? Or is that all the milage I should expect from this car. Thanks for any input.

Re: milage on 2.0L jetta

You should be getting better than that under "normal" circumstances. But you've included nothing about other things. Do you let the car warm up in the driveway for 30 minutes every morning at home and before leaving work? Do you live in a city or a rural area? Little stuff like that might help. My guess is you should be getting near 30 mpg with it.

Fuel filters make a HUGE difference in gas mileage if they are clogged.
