Question starting & shifting problems

MY 96 blazer LS 4x4 takes spells & will not start sometimes. what i meen is when the ignition switch is turned to on or to start nothing happens , no instrament panel lights , no nothing. 50 to 100 tries cycling the ignition switch she finaly starts. the other problem is the transmission. this all started about a year ago around or about the same time. when the weather warms up the trans starts down shifting while slowing down to a stop then when i take off it shifts the same way through all gears. the check engine light shows the same code (can't remember) but tech man said the code was the valve body . now when i start it up & take off it shifts fine until it warms up , then when i come to a stop & take off again it stays in drive . the trans fluid & filter have been changed 5 times in one year . i thought this would help . fluid looks & smells good before every change . i would have had it flushed but trans-man said that could flush metal shavings out of the torck converter & damage other parts of the trans . blazer has 130,000 miles on it and taken very good care of . please help

I agree, it's the ignition switch. Most common on 97 blazers I had the same two problems but at separate times and in both cases it was the switch

Did you reset the computer?

turn the key to the on position and remove the two ECM fuses and allow the computer to reset for 5 minutes.

replaced both shift selonoids in the back of the trans and new filter and fluid . now when i put it in drive it will start off in second and shift by itself into drive . where as before i would have to move the shift selector from second to drive . still no first gear or overdrive . the two shift selonoids i relaced are , i know one is a 2-3 shift . im not sure but the other is a 1-2 shift selonoid . whats next

Re: starting & shifting problems

I have this exact problem with my 96 GMC Jimmy. Can the problem be simply fixed by replacing the shift solenoids? doe anybody have these part numbers available? Thanks
