2000 Trooper Tranny
I notice that starting from a dead stop the rear seems to slip if I give it too much gas. This happens on an intermittent basis. I brought it to the transmission shop to have it checked out. He changed the fluid and said he wasn't happy with the amount of metal in the pan. He suggested I keep driving it in the hopes that the fluid change might help. The Trooper has 104K on it. Was his advice sound? Any advice is welcome.

Re: 2000 Trooper Tranny
Couple of quick questions.
When was the last time you changed your tranny fluid? When was the last time you changed the rear diffy fluid (are you sure you added Limited slip fluid)? Have you lubed the grease zerk on the drive shift U-joint? Have you cleaned up your battery ground points? include the ones to the body and the alt. bracket? age of the battery? (Isuzu tranny do weird things with low or high voltage)

Re: 2000 Trooper Tranny
The tranny fluid has been changed at 60k miles. It ran funny and I brought it to a different mechanic, he said it was very low on fluid and added more. The next time I had it changed (104k) the mechanic said he wasn't happy with the amout of metal he found in the pan. It still slips when I accelerate too fast from a dead stop.
I don't think the rear diffy fluid has ever been changed, nor has the grease zerk on the drive shaft u-joint been done (unless it is done when your oil is changed). The battery is fairly new. I will check both sets of posts. Thanks for your time. I really appreciate it. |

This could be a 'thump' on take-off from a driveshaft slip yoke that needs to be greased. If this was your first ATF change, you may be too late. The 4L30E AT needs new ATF atleast every 30K miles if you want it to last beyond 100K miles.

Re: 2000 Trooper Tranny
Is the driveshaft slip yoke easy to grease, or is it something I should have done in a shop?

Re: 2000 Trooper Tranny
It is easy to grease since you have a grease zerk. You just need a grease gun to pump some grease into it.
