Egr Valve

Hi. Bought A 1996 Grand Am Gt. Check Engine Light Came On. Took Car To Pep Boys Charged $30.00 Came Back With A Code For The Egr. Have The 3.1. Where Is It Located And How Would One Go About Changing It? Alos On This Model Does It Have To Be Replaced Or Can It Be Cleaned? About How Much Do They Cost? Thanks For Your Help

The 3.1 uses the "linear" type of EGR valve.

1] U may have to remove air cleaner outlet resonator

2] Detach the wiring harness

3] Unbolt valve and lift out.

Valve is located at rear of engine, passenger side, behind the coil packs. Look for a tube or pipe coming up from lower part of engine. Two bolt flange on tube mounts the valve and assorted gaskets.

U can try to blast it out with a solvent spray cleaner, but the unit has to be replaced as unit.

Try www.autozone.com, surf them for pricing to benchmark cost of the unit.
