I am so frustrated! I just installed tweeters in my 98 Taurus. I cannot find grills for them anywhere! I've tried car-part.com and many other sites...perhaps I am searching with the wrong keywords??? I was under the assumption that the tweeter housing is called a sail panel. any help would be appreciated.

I just converted the sail panels on my 99' taurus into tweeter pods.I just got the car and noticed the panels looked big enough to house a tweeter, removed the cover and wow!Already a tweet housing in there.I drilled a 2 inch hole then found some grills I had saved from old speakers and cut the metal grills to fit the pods.I then used a glue gun to bond the grills to the inside of the pods.Does this help?I'll try to get you some pics.

pics would be great. I've thought about converting the panels into grills, but I don't want to cut it then find out that it won't look good. I put in some Pioneers-they sound awesome! hard to believe little speakers can make such a huge difference in the quality of the sound.
come to think of it, I'd only need to cut an opening in the panel, the tweeters came with grills attached already. the hard part would be cutting in the exact position...still, send me the pics if you will, I'd like to see how it looks anyway. |

I believe its a 2 in hole drill bit that fits on your drill.I drilled the hole on the flattest portion. My tweeter is not exactly in-line with the hole but thats ok with me.I'm saving up for real tweets...those are headphone speakers but they work well in the upper freq. and they are 32 ohm so not much draw on the factory amp.I cut the wire mesh with regular household scissors.
