Wreckless Driving

I recently got pulled over because I was racing my friend down major road in my city. I'm now being charged with wreckless driving, and have 10 days to appear before a judge in court. I know for a fact that I'm being charged with wreckless driving because the officer never clocked my speed, so he ticketed me for what he could. The officer swears to me that i was going well over 100, because he had to do 105 to catch up to me. Yet, my engine can only get up to 115, and to even acheive that speed I would have needed at least another 15 sec's or so. I mean, last time I did a 0-60 it was about 11 somethin. And I was only racing my friend for a good 7 to 8 secs before I got pulled over. So I wasn't even hitting 60 probably, and the speed limit was 45.

I'm not sure what to expect when I go before the judge. I'm praying that my license wont get suspended. I deliver pizza's, so if i lose my license then I'll lose my job. So does anyone have any advice, recomendations, etc. I'm just trying to get perspective of what the judge might do.

Re: Wreckless Driving

hey, wreckless driving is good for you, it lowers your insurance.

on the other hand, reckless driving is not a good thing.

Just be honest with the judge. don't lie, dont sit there and say the officer is lying, or try to make excuses. ask if you can take drivers classes, to learn to be a better, smarter, safer driver.

I hope things work out for the best! let us know the outcome.

Feel lucky, we have a law against speed contest which is automatic suspension of driving rights, classes and the old SR22 insurance even though you can't drive.

A little advice, update your resume. Can't you get a red permit to drive at work?

Scratch my advice then, he's probably just being summond to court to pick up his safe driving meTal, give tips to the police academy class and to have a picture taken with the Mayor... I wouldn't worry???

Re: Wreckless Driving

Um, if you didnt catch it, I was poking at the fact that he spelled reckless wrong.

"wreck-less" means no accidents (wrecks), and thats good for your rates (duh)

he wanted to use the word reckless.

Re: Wreckless Driving

Well you're pretty much up a shit creek without a paddle, but if you're nice about it and ask politely, the judge could give you a permit to drive while at work.

Reckless Driving in Florida

Reckless driving in Florida is a four point violation. If you talk to the officer you may get it reduced to an under 15mph speeding ticket. This does not sound like much but it is three points and the increase in your insurance will be much less. Talk to the clerk of court now and she can tell you what to expect from the judge and how much cash to bring.

Then you can decide if you need an attorney.

well he can't get you for speeding then.

If he hasn't got proof, he can't fine you. End of story.

A friend of mine over-took an off-duty cop, he admits he was doing 60 in the 50 zone, but the cop was trying to do him for 90 in the 50 zone which is about a 5000 dollar fine, and he'd lose his licence for over 2 years. He went to court about it, and said the cop was doing 25 in the 50 zone, and James over-took him doing no greater than 50 because of the slow speed the other car was doing, he said to the judge how can he judge my speed with no equipment in the car, or a hand held radar? It's impossible. He then said that's it's also illegal to prevoke this driving, and it's illegal to go that slow, so he got out of the entire thing, the commisioner is pissed off about it though.

your probally wont even see the judge, go there early and talk with the prosecutor(tinks thas who it is) and he'll most likely throw it out and make you just pay a fine of $50 or so.

Statie pulled me over for "unsafe movement" and "reckless drivng" one day for laying some posi marks at a traffic light.

Went to court , payed the $50 and was on my way

Re: Wreckless Driving

That dont make sense to me, you have a certain distance to catch up to someone, he could have done 210 to catch up to you, doesnt mean you were doing 210 to begin with. If your engine cant even do 100. Seems abit fishy, fight it, get it reduced to speeding at a high rate of speed. Get a lawyer and sue em for lying.

Re: Wreckless Driving

Been to court yet? If not, make sure you don't mention that you know it takes 15 sec to get up to 100 and that you were only racing for 7 secs. The cop saw your racing, so you'll have to admit to that, but point out that there was no speed measured for your vehicle.

Re: Wreckless Driving

it's not impossible to judge speed without equipment.
there are road markings on that are used to purely judge distance and the officer can count in seconds that it takes for you or him to pass two points.
this gives a rough estimate that is accurate enough for the purpose.

of course, this is on UK roads, and ALL traffic cars have cameras in them.
