Simple Gas Tank Question

On the 1992 Firebird, what size was the bloody gas tank? I ask only because I've had cars where when it read "E" there was still about 4 gallons in the tank, and I've had cars where when it read "E" it ment your pushing. Now I put 9 gallons in the tank when there was 3 bars left, and it read almost full, so my guess is its a 12 gallon tank. If this is the case, Im bloody getting a fuel cell.

Re: Simple Gas Tank Question

I'm pretty sure it's the same size as the 4th gens.. And I know mines 15 1/2 gallons. Or maybe it's just 15. One or the other.

Re: Simple Gas Tank Question

I was under the impression that it had from a 15-16 gallon tank in it, but my gauge goes down to fast for a V6. Of course I have 3.23 gears (Third Gen V6s from 84-92 had 3.23 gears) and a 5-spd, and I really cant say that I keep my foot out of it, but it just goes down TO fast.

Re: Simple Gas Tank Question

heh, yeah I get exactly what your saying. Lately I've been trying to keep the RPM under 2k at all times. mainly because the gas prices are killer right now, and are still goin up. So I've been using my moms Kia for when I deliver pizza's since it's gettin 36 mpg. And my car only gets about 21-24. With gas prices the way they are right now, it's making me consider trading my car in for one of those hybrids. I've seen the Honda Insight get up to 100 mpg. It was crazy.

Re: Simple Gas Tank Question

15.5 gal.
if you have the 3.1 i wouldnt expect the greatest of gas mileage. the third gen sixers were pretty underpowered. i would try keeping track of your gas mileage cause if it is really bad, that can be a sign of a problem with the engine.

Re: Simple Gas Tank Question

Well, when I keep her under 2k on shifts, I get real good gasmileage. If I take her up to 3k shifts, its so-so gas mileage, and when im in "Drive it like you stole it" mode I get horrible gas mileage
